SERVPRO Team Harvey Reaches Out to Monmouth County Firefighters in Honor of National First Responder's Day

11/2/2023 (Permalink)

Cliffwood, NJ - What type of person willingly puts their life on the line for a stranger, runs towards danger rather than away from it, and is at their best when you're at your worst? If you answered "superhero," you're close, but superheroes are fictional characters who exist in movies and comic books. In real life, these people are first responders, and like their fictional counterparts, many of them walk amongst us, undetected and unappreciated until you really need them.

This is exactly why the United States Senate passed a resolution back in 2017 to designate October 28th as National First Responders Day - a day set aside to raise awareness of these unsung heroes who are often volunteers, and to recognize and appreciate the sacrifices they make for their communities. First responders include firefighters, police, emergency medical technicians (EMT), paramedics, and 911 operators.

SERVPRO Team Harvey, a collective property restoration franchise that serves the state of New Jersey, including their operating territories in the Aberdeen/Holmdel, Hoboken/Union City, and West Somerset County areas of New Jersey, understands firsthand how essential first responders are to their communities because its technicians and project managers regularly come into direct contact with them during mitigation jobs caused by fires, floods, storm events, and other disasters that affect commercial properties and homes.

"Our local first responders are the first on the scene in times of crisis and emergency, and SERVPRO Team Harvey wants them to know how much we appreciate their sacrifice and commitment. Often, the very people saving lives are our neighbors, friends, and family members. This National Day of Gratitude serves to remind us of their selfless, heroic, around the clock service. We are deeply grateful for all they do," said Lance Harvey, President and owner of SERVPRO Team Harvey.

SERVPRO Team Harvey seized the opportunity afforded by this day to deliver thank you bags to local volunteer firehouses throughout northern Monmouth County. These firehouses included Cliffwood, Aberdeen, Holmdel, Hazlet, Keansburg, Union Beach, and Keyport.

"SERVPRO Team Harvey took a grass roots outreach approach by going from firehouse to firehouse, introducing ourselves to the first responders we had the privilege to meet along the way, and thanking them face to face. This approach is in the spirit of the company's mission to always maintain a community focus," said Harvey.

On a national level, SERVPRO partnered with First Responders Children's Foundation (FRCF) to host an event highlighting exceptional bravery in New York's Time Square on October 24. And throughout the year, SERVPRO sponsors events in support of first responders, such as the First Responder Bowl, which will take place in Dallas on December 26th.

As one of the most dangers jobs in the country, National First Responders Day also pays tribute to fallen first responders. According to the Department of Homeland Security, 4.6 million career and volunteer first responders support the communities where they live, and according to the CDC, 97 firefighters and 155 police officers die each year in the line of duty.

Even though National Firs Responder's Day has come and gone, it's never too late to take a moment to tahnk your local first responders for their commitment to protecting you and your safety.

"These dedicated individuals answer the call when a crisis arises, often putting their own lives on the line. SERVPRO Team Harvey encourages everyone to stop by their local fire hall, police station, or EMS facility and say 'thank you' to your local first responders," said Harvey.

SERVPRO Team Harvey is an independently owned and operated emergency services company located throughout New Jersey. When disaster strikes, commercial facilities, homeowners, business owners, and insurance companies can rely on SERVPRO Team Harvey to make it "like it never even happened."

In our business, you need us fast. The sooner we arrive, the better the chance we can reduce damage and save you money. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. You can count on it.

Trained, Uniformed Franchise Professionals

A trained, uniformed, and equipped SERVPRO Franchise Professional will walk you through the job process and then work quickly to restore your property to preloss condition, whenever possible.

Our professionals undergo extensive water restoration training and certification. SERVPRO Industries, Inc. is an IICRC-approved school to help ensure our training meets and exceeds accepted industry standards.

The Right Equipment

SERVPRO understands that using the proper equipment makes a measurable difference in reducing claims loss expense. When time matters, technology and equipment must be counted on to perform. We will answer your calls with fast action, exceptional equipment, and trained, uniformed personnel - as we mentioned before. Certainly, the right tool for the job is vital to timely mitigation, but perhaps more important, these water damage professionals thoroughly understand how to dry a structure and personal property effectively.

Psychrometrics

Psychrometry is the study of the air and its properties. The properties of temperature, humidity, vapor pressure, and dew point are measured to evaluate air conditions in the structure, enabling us to create the proper atmosphere for an efficient drying process.

Water can damage materials in two ways: first, by absorption through direct contact with water; and second, absorption of moisture from the air. Measuring the moisture content of the air is critical to the drying process.

Restoration professionals must establish an environment favorable for drying. The restoration professional must also understand how to manipulate temperature and humidity levels to produce optimum drying conditions, without causing secondary damages through an improper drying.

Detection Equipment

Scoping involves locating the areas of the structure affected by water and defining the extent to which the structure and contents have absorbed moisture. Moisture detection devices are also used to verify that an environment has been dried thoroughly.

  • Moisture Sensors are used to detect moisture in carpets, baseboards, and walls.
  • Moisture Meters are used to determine the actual moisture content of various materials. The moisture tester provides accurate moisture readings that enable us to monitor the drying process.
  • Thermohygrometers measure both temperature and relative humidity. Capturing these two readings, using a psychrometric chart can calculate specific humidity, dew point, and vapor pressure.

Extraction Equipment

The most effective method of water damage restoration from a structure is extraction. This is why it is critical to respond quickly to water damage and to provide emergency mitigation services. When the water is extracted quickly, the environment can usually be dried much faster.

  • Extractors are used in cleaning carpets and upholstery and in removing water from floors following water damage. Extractors can either be truck-mounted or portable, allowing for greater access inside structures.

Air Moving Equipment

Air movers are used in water damage restoration to enhance evaporation at the surface level, thereby reducing drying time. As airflow at the surface level increases, the moisture in the air increases. This moisture is then eliminated via the use of dehumidification equipment.

Dehumidification Equipment

By extracting water vapor from the air, dehumidifiers lower the relative humidity, which in turn, increases the rate of evaporation. In a water damaged structure, dehumidifiers pull in the moist, humid air and then discharge dry, warm air. The dry air acts like a sponge, absorbing moisture from wet materials. We use two different types of dehumidifiers:

  • Refrigerant Dehumidifiers: work similarly to air conditioners
  • Desiccant Dehumidifiers: use chemicals called desiccants that readily absorb moisture from the air.

Deodorization Equipment

Ultra Low Volume (ULV) Foggers will atomize liquid deodorizing agents, producing a fine mist that easily penetrates sites where odor-causing residues accumulate. The device can also be used to inject fungicides and disinfectants into wall cavities and other difficult-to-access areas.

Thermal Foggers dispense solvent-based products in large volume, dense fogs suitable for confined areas. The fog consists of tiny particles of deodorant solution that pair with and neutralize odor-causing particles.

Our Emergency Water Damage Process Overview

Below is our water damage restoration process:

  • ONE HOUR:
    • Within one hour from notice of loss, we will contact you to arrange for service. You'll know help is on the way.
  • FOUR HOURS:
    • Within four hours of loss notification, we will be on-site to start mitigation services. The key to reducing damage and saving money is responding quickly to your damage.
  • DETAILED EXPLANATION:
    • A trained, uniformed and equipped SERVPRO technician will walk you through the job process step-by-step, explaining what to expect and the anticipated outcome.
  • PRETESTING:
    • We will begin pretesting for restorability, working from the source of the damage outward.
  • EIGHT HOURS:
    • Within eight business hours of on-site arrival, a verbal briefing on the scope will be communicated to the appropriate person, normally your adjuster or property manager.
  • CLEANING & RESTORATION:
    • We will work neatly and efficiently to help you regain control of your property when a damaging event has taken over. They will use state-of-the-art restoration techniques to ensure your property is taken care of right the first time.
  • FINAL WALK-THROUGH:
    • After the work has been completed, a final walk-through will be conducted with you to help ensure your satisfaction.

As for Water Damage Restoration

We will check for the source of water in your building. The source must be stopped before any restoration or drying can be successful. We'll stop the source as well as check for contaminated water.

Then, we'll identify the category and classification of water damage to ensure we restore your property based on industry guidelines. The level of contamination of the water will affect the specific restoration processes we use. The water categories are: Clean, Gray, or Black.

We'll inspect and test the damaged area to determine the extent of damage and how far the moisture has traveled to ensure proper and complete restoration. In addition we will inspect for safety concerns, which may be evident. If there are any safety issues or you are aware of any asbestos containing materials before our arrival, please bring them to our attention.

Visible mold growth and moldy, musty odors may indicate the source of moisture or water intrusion. If extensive mold is evident, we will need to consult your adjuster or property manager before completing additional work.

We remove furniture and property contents and block items to help prevent ruse or furniture stains on wet carpets.

What is Restorable

Determining exactly what can be saved until everything is dry is usually impossible. We will set a follow-up date so we can monitor the drying process. In addition, the restoration process will be scheduled when the drying is complete. This can include floor preparation, tack strip replacement, carpet and pad installation, seaming, carpet cleaning and restoring, and furniture and contents cleaning. A scope of services will be provided.

Services We Offer

We offer fire damage restoration, which includes smoke damage cleanup and soot cleanup; water damage restoration and dehumidification; mold mitigation and remediation; storm damage restoration; move outs and contents restoration; electronics and equipment; document drying; contents claim inventory service; cleaning services that include air ducts and HVAC; biohazard, crime scene, and vandalism; carpet and upholstery, drapes and blinds; ceilings, walls, and hard floors; deodorization.

Is Mold Remediation a Long-Term Solution?

2/16/2021 (Permalink)

If you notice signs of mold growing in your house or commercial property, you probably have a lot of questions about removal and prevention. SERVPRO, one of the top mold removal companies in the Aberdeen and Holmdel area, has the answers—and the solutions.

Questions to Consider About Your Mold Infestation

Many people notice the appearance of mold on surfaces like shower walls, ceilings, or floors. If this sounds familiar, you may wonder:

  • How widespread is the mold infestation?
  • Can mold cause health effects?
  • How costly is the mold removal process?
  • And perhaps most importantly, is mold remediation a long-term solution?

The truth is, once you see mold, there’s a good chance underlying or invisible growth is extending beyond what you see. When SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel performs mold remediation at your property, we help you understand the full scope of the problem, including the extent of damage and the procedures we’re likely to use in resolving it.

How Is Mold Removed?

The removal method depends on the infested surface. If the mold is infesting porous surfaces or materials like carpet, drywall, or fabric, we remove the material itself because the hyphae deeply penetrate into the material.

Non-porous materials like glass, metal, and plastics require various professional cleaning techniques, including:

  • HEPA vacuuming to remove loose fragments
  • Damp-wiping with cleaning agents that have anti-microbial properties to stop or limit microbial growth
  • Sanding and wire-brushing surfaces
  • Applying biocides to the surfaces once completed

Our expert technicians prevent the spread of mold residue that can take place during the removal process by taking precautionary steps, such as:

  • Running negative air machines in cleaning areas
  • Containing the mold materials in plastic bags as they await disposal

These important measures ensure the mold remediation is, in fact, a long-term solution.

Break the cycle of recurring mold infestations by calling SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel. Our cleanup and remediation processes make it "Like it never even happened." Call us at (732) 290-3170 at the first sign of mold.

Why You May Need an Indoor Environmental Test

11/11/2020 (Permalink)

Have you ever thought about the air quality inside your home? Believe it or not, it has the potential of being more hazardous than the air quality outside. Here’s why.

Today’s homes are built in more airtight ways to help lower heating and cooling costs. While this is great for energy bills, it doesn’t allow the home to air out. By trapping in the hot or cool air, we’re also trapping in pollutants – and even potentially producing more pollutants.

SERVPRO Will Help You Understand Why for Your Holmdel Damages.

2/16/2020 (Permalink)

Our SERVPRO team can be there to save you Holmdel.

Holmdel any damages can be overwhelming, let SERVPRO walk you through.

Though our doors only opened roughly a decade ago, we have already helped more than 2500 customers with a wide range of restoration services. From water and fire cleanup and recovery to mold remediation and storm response, our SERVPRO team works hard to live up to the commitment that We’re Faster To Any Size Disaster. When disasters strike Holmdel homes and businesses, residents are relying more and more on the award-winning service our team can provide, including heavy cleanup, large loss response, and full-scale reconstruction when needed.

Fire

Fire is a traumatic and stressful ordeal for all parties involved, and when it has consumed your family home, it can be even more overwhelming. We know you do not want to entrust your home to just anyone, and that is why over this past decade, we have worked to set ourselves apart as more than just another restoration company. We have sympathetic and compassionate technicians that care about your property and have the experience and the education to overcome most fire loss obstacles in Holmdel residences effectively.

The effects of a fire can spread quickly and fiercely through a Holmdel property, encompassing many of your personal belongings in rooms far from the ignition point. Soot and smoke damages are among the worst and most hazardous of these effects, and that is why our SERVPRO team works to provide immediate mitigation tactics to address the presence of these conditions beginning as soon as we arrive.

For widespread structural fire damage in Holmdel properties, we have a division of in-house reconstruction specialists to help. These experienced contractors can oversee fundamental aspects like debris removal and controlled demolition to reduce harsh odors and soot effects, but also can provide a seamless and efficient transition to the full-scale reconstruction needs of your property after a substantial fire loss scenario.

Mold

We do not need your business so badly that we are willing to sell you a service that your Holmdel residence does not need. When you are unsure if mold exists in your home, let us help you with a free inspection and assessment of this risk and determine definitively what your property needs and how our team can help you. We are renowned for our mold remediation services because of their efficiency and thoroughness, even into long-term solutions designed to prevent recurrences.

Not only do we need to remove mold colonies when they get discovered, but we also must eliminate the effects they introduce to the environment. Apart from the volatile organic compounds that can make exposure to mold colonies a hazard to occupants of your home, colonies also emit a harsh, musty odor that can make comfortable living difficult. Removing visible signs of mold damage can reduce the concentration of these odors, but the full deodorization often requires thermal fogging or the deployment of hydroxyl generators in Holmdel houses.

While we have many effective remediation practices that can preserve lightly damaged surfaces and contents on-site, we also must prepare for the possibility that deep-rooted organisms can change the composition of sensitive materials. The only solution for colony removal at this point would be controlled demolition by our team of contractors. Once the area gets dried, these same professionals can reinstall removed construction materials to complete the remediation process in your Holmdel residence fully.

Water

Much of our success with water restoration rests on the shoulders of the premier drying and extraction tools available to our SERVPRO team. From our hundreds of high-velocity air movers to our dehumidifiers, drying mats, and heaters, our professionals have an extensive inventory of recovery tools to manage water damage in Holmdel properties. With a fast response to your water emergency, much of the drying can occur when the threat is still on the surface.

The technicians available to help have thorough training in both structural drying and water restoration to provide a fast and confident response for your damaged Holmdel house. These specialists have material-specific strategies utilizing advanced tools and technologies. Tile and hardwood, for example, can benefit from tented drying mats that offer a steady draw of moisture in an easily monitored system.

To further protect your investments after a water loss incident, our professionals can move your personal belongings to an unaffected area of your Holmdel residence. In situations where this option is not possible, we have designated technicians to carefully pack up these items and store them safely in our climate-controlled warehouse until our team has fully restored your water-damaged home.

Storm

Structural concerns can quickly open up the door for flood damage in Holmdel residences without a fast and deliberate response from our SERVPRO disaster relief team. Even though we are on call 24/7 and can mobilize quickly, substantial damage to your structure can immediately lead to these water damages in some situations. We have the appropriate techniques that we can begin immediately to reduce the intrusion of new water and to work on mitigation of the current flooding effects.

Before we can address interior flooding concerns, we must seal up holes and vulnerabilities in your structure. We have a team of licensed contractors capable of offering immediate repairs and temporary construction solutions to prevent flood water penetration. From roof tarping to board up services, we can prevent further flooding so that our SERVPRO team can get to work on restoring the damage inside of your Holmdel house.

Because floodwater is rarely free of debris and sediment, a common extraction choice by our technicians is the self-priming trash pump. Though this can lose its prime when water levels drop below two inches, this is a manageable damage level for light wands and wet-vacs. There are many stages of recovery for a flooded Holmdel residence, but as a large loss service provider, we have the resources, personnel, and experience to help.

While you cannot predict what, if any, disasters your home might face over its lifetime, you can count on the experience and education of our SERVPRO of Aberdeen / Holmdel technicians to help however you need. Give us a call anytime at (732) 290-3170.

Hazlet Properties Benefit from SERPVRO's Microbial Remediation and Restoration

1/14/2020 (Permalink)

This Is Why SERVPRO Provides Mold Remediation and Restoration at Its Best for Hazlet Homeowner--Advanced Equipment Transported by Skilled Technicians

Remediating Mold Damage in a Hazlet Home

New Jersey homeowners know to be prepared for mold, as unpleasant as it may be to endure. However, they may not realize it has reproduced until it is more than they can readily handle. Because mold can cause health effects, it is safer to leave the cleanup to professionals who can remediate the issue without putting homeowners at risk.

If your Hazlet home requires mold damage remediation, IICRC-Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification--qualified SERVPRO technicians are available 24/7 to mitigate issues and restore your home. This team is available at any time of the day or night, including all holidays, so you can enjoy a clean home without microbe proliferation that can damage structures. All buildings contain some amount of mold and spores, but too much can affect the safety and stability of structures by eating away at wood, insulation, and other organic materials. Moisture and leak detection are crucial inspections to help prevent future outbreaks of mold colonization.

SERVPRO's Cutting-Edge Technologies
SERVPRO technicians employ a wide variety of measurement and mitigation technologies, including the following:

?    Moisture detection tools such as sensors, meters, infrared cameras, and Thermo hygrometers
?    High-powered extraction equipment designed to remove large amounts of water, including submersible and gas-powered pumps, as well as portable and truck-mounted extraction units
?    Commercial-grade air movers and dehumidifiers designed to restore materials to their optimal relative humidity
?    Odor removal equipment including HEPA filter air scrubbers, thermal and ultra-low volume foggers, and EPA-registered antimicrobials
?    Sanitizing agents designed to kill germs as well as stop bacteria, fungi, mold, mildew, and other microbes

How SERVPRO Can Help
If mold is affecting your property, SERVPRO technicians have a variety of tools available for removing mold. For porous surfaces that have extensive mold exposure, removal may be necessary and is done with the permission of property owners and insurance adjusters. Affected materials can include fabrics, upholstery, and carpet. For nonporous surfaces that have surface mold, or are soiled by organic material with mold growth on it, wet or dry cleaning methods may be implemented to dislodge and remove the mold. Mold-affected blown-in insulation can be sucked up with a specialized insulation vacuum. We recommend not to attempt to rehabilitate this material but to use a new product. Rolled, batten type insulation often harbors mold colonies within the paper backing. This contaminated insulation should be added to the trash heap.

SERVPRO of Aberdeen / Holmdel can ensure that your home looks, "Like it never even happened." For professional mold remediation from certified professionals, you can always call (732) 290-3170.

Holmdel Home Smells after a House Fire? No Worries, SERVPRO Has the Skilled Technicians and the Gear for Abatement

11/12/2019 (Permalink)

When the Red Fire Truck Leaves the Fire Damaged Holmdel Home--The SERVPRO Green Fleet Arrives

Why SERVPRO Uses a Selection of Smoke Odor Removal Equipment After Fire Damage in Holmdel

The odors a fire leaves behind in your Holmdel home can be tough to remove. Even after our team of talented technicians work hard to remove all the visible signs of heat and soot on surfaces, the lingering smells make it impossible to forget the fear and worry you and your family experienced when the flames swept through. Deep cleaning and debris removal do not always eliminate the malodors, why we cycle through various types of equipment to find a solution.

Odor Removal Is a Process

Determining the source of odors caused by fire damage to your Holmdel home is not a straightforward task. We toil until we are satisfied we have cleared away all the debris and residues possible. Any odor remaining is why we need to focus on the tiny particles of soot that are still airborne or settled in cracks and crevices. The solids in smoke are incompletely combusted materials, and they can hold on to the stench conventional cleaning cannot remove.

Fogging Machines

Our technicians use an Ultra Low Volume (ULV) mister for “wet” fogging. Water-based deodorants are atomized into a fine mist, creating a deodorant fog of particles 20 to 60 microns in size. They are small enough to penetrate spaces where the tiny odor-bearing solids settle. ULV misters are employed in HVAC system deodorization and in covering inaccessible areas like attics and crawl spaces. Thermal foggers work by recreating the conditions experienced during the fire, combusting solvent foggers work or petroleum-based deodorizer. The minute particles generated pair with odor-bearing molecules, causing a chemical reaction that eliminates rather than masks the smells. The success of these methods is why SERVPRO tries these options in many cases.

Ozone Generators and Photocatalytic Oxidizers

Ozone machines create an unstable gas that reacts with the odor-carrying molecules to oxidize them, removing the odor. Pets and inhabitants need to vacate the premises during the treatment. Photocatalytic oxidizers, also knowns as hydroxyl generators, use UV rays to produce hydroxyl radicals to break the odor-bearing bits into water and carbon dioxide. Advanced training is why SERVPRO technicians can explain how this process is safer to use in the presence of humans and animals.

Air Scrubbers and Ventilation Equipment

Negative pressure air scrubbers pull contaminated air through HEPA filters, removing malodorous particles. High-velocity air movers create a flow of 1000 to 3000 cubic feet of air per minute, clearing odors, fumes, and vapors. Airborne residues and vapors are why SERVPRO uses air movers after thermal fogging, exchanging the air 40 or more times to ensure air quality is optimized.

Our commitment to the science of odor removal is why SERVPRO of Aberdeen / Holmdel employs the above equipment and other strategies to remove the smells that persist after fire damage. Call us at (732) 290-3170 for a fire recovery consultation, including an odor removal plan.
