- Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around pipes.
We are here to assist you in the event of an emergency. Our team is trained to handle any fire or water damage situation with professionalism and care. Remember, when disaster strikes, quick action is essential to minimize damage and restore your home to its preloss condition.
By following these tips and being proactive in safeguarding your home, you can enjoy a safe and cozy winter season without worrying about frozen pipes. Stay warm and stay safe!
Common Commercial Water Damage Issues
12/6/2023 (Permalink)
Water damage in commercial buildings can be a significant and costly problem, often arising from various sources such as leaks, floods, burst pipes, or even natural disasters. These incidents can lead to structural damage, compromised electrical systems, mold growth, and damage to valuable equipment and inventory.
Common water damage issues in commercial buildings include roof leaks, plumbing failures, malfunctioning HVAC systems, and improper drainage. Addressing these issues promptly is essential to prevent further damage, maintain a safe environment for occupants, and preserve the integrity of the building's structure. Effective preventive measures, regular maintenance, and quick response to water-related problems are crucial in minimizing the impact of water damage on commercial properties.
Commercial Roof Leaks
Commercial roof leaks pose a big threat to the integrity of a building, leading to extensive water damage and potential mold growth if it is not quickly addressed. When a roof leaks, water can seep into the building's structure, damaging insulation, ceiling tiles, and drywall.
Over time, this moisture accumulation creates an ideal environment for mold spores to thrive. Mold not only compromises indoor air quality, but also poses health risks to occupants. If it's left unresolved, roof leaks can weaken the building, leading to structural damage and costly repairs.
That's why it's crucial to address commercial roof leaks promptly. Timely repairs not only prevent further water damage but also inhibit the growth of mold, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for you, your employees, and customers.
Commercial Plumbing Failures
Commercial plumbing failures can cause extensive water damage and pose a serious risk of mold growth if not repaired right away. Leaky pipes, burst water lines, or faulty fixtures can lead to water seepage into walls, ceilings, and floods, creating hidden pockets of moisture where mold can thrive.
Mold growth not only damages building materials but also poses health hazards, like we mentioned before. Also, stagnant water resulting from plumbing failures can weaken the building's structure over time. That's why timely repair of commercial plumbing issues is crucial to preventing water damage, mold infestations, and the associated health risks.
Malfunctioning HVAC Systems
Malfunctioning HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems can promote significant water damage and mold issues if not taken care of right away. When HVAC systems malfunction, they may produce excessive condensation or leaks, allowing water to accumulate in building spaces.
Prolonged exposure to moisture promotes mold, which will spread quickly throughout the building. The excess moisture from HVAC leaks can weaken walls, ceilings, and floors, compromising the structure.
Improper Drainage
Improper drainage systems in commercial buildings can promote severe water damage, making it imperative to address the issue promptly. When drainage systems are not functioning correctly, rainwater, storm water, or even wastewater may not be directed away from the building efficiently. This can result in water pooling around the foundation, seeping into basements, and causing structural damage.
Over time, stagnant water can erode foundations, compromise the stability of the building, and end up being expensive. Also, it creates a conducive environment for mold, which not only damages the building, but is dangerous to be around. Proper drainage ensures that water is directed away from the building, preventing water damage, mold, and preserving the integrity of the commercial structure.
Regular inspections, maintenance, and timely repairs of drainage systems are essential to safeguarding commercial properties from these potential issues.
Natural Disasters
Natural disasters are another reason why commercial buildings can deal with water damage. Although this isn't considered to be a "common problem," it's a problem that has happened to the best of us whether it be to our home or businesses. It's important that we always have a heads up with the weather reports, especially when it's hurricane season or winter storm season.
Ensuring that your business' windows and doors are sealed correctly is a big step in protecting the building from water damage. When it comes to heavy rains and flooding, lining the building with sand bags to protect it from water build up is also a good way to protect the building.

Common Plumbing Issues that Cause Water Damage
10/6/2023 (Permalink)
Water damage is a persistent and potentially costly concern for homeowners, with a multitude of sources that can lead to its unwelcome intrusion. Among the most prevalent culprits are plumbing issues, which have the capacity to cause a lot of damage if left unchecked.
From leaky pipes and bursting plumbing fixtures to drain blockages and sewer line backups, these common plumbing mishaps can swiftly transform your home into a waterlogged nightmare.
Let's talk about the common plumbing issues that can cause water damage in your home and how SERVPRO can help.
Leaky Pipes
Leaky pipes are a pervasive plumbing issue that can result in extensive water damage within a home. These leaks often start as a small drip, but over time, they can escalate into much larger and more destructive problems. When pipes develop cracks, corrosion, or faulty connections, water can seep into surrounding walls, floors, or ceilings.
The constant moisture can weaken structural components and promote mold growth, creating an environment ready for rot and decay. If left untreated, leaky pipes can lead to costly repairs, compromised indoor air quality, and a diminished overall quality of life in the affected home.
Detecting and fixing these leaks promptly is crucial to preventing the potentially severe consequences of water damage, as well as the rise in your water bill if the dripping doesn't stop.
Burst Pipes
Burst pipes represent a plumbing catastrophe that can inflict rapid and severe water damage in a home. These incidents often occur in freezing temperatures when water inside the pipes expands, leading to pipe ruptures. When a pipe bursts, it releases water into the surrounding area at an alarming rate, potentially flooding rooms, damaging possessions, and compromising the structural integrity of the building.
The sheer volume of water can lead to immediate and extensive damage to floors, walls, and ceilings, often necessitating emergency repairs and significant restoration efforts. Timely intervention to shut off the water supply and address the pipe is imperative to mitigate the destructive consequences of such an event.
Clogged Drains
Clogged drains can be deceptively mundane yet have the potential to cause significant water damage within a home. When a drain becomes obstructed, whether it's in a sink, bathtub, or toilet, it impedes the proper flow of wastewater.
As a result, water can back up and overflow, often flooding the immediate area and seeping into floors or walls. Over time, this standing water can lead to structural damage, weakening materials and promoting mold.
Additionally, the excess moisture can compromise the integrity of flooring and create a breeding ground for potentially harmful microorganisms. Regular drain maintenance and swift response to clogs are essential to prevent water damage.
Faulty Plumbing Fixtures
Faulty plumbing fixtures such as faucets, toilets, and shower heads can be sources of water damage in a home. Even minor issues like dripping faucets or constantly running toilets may seem insignificant, but they can waste a considerable amount of water over time and lead to hidden damage.
Leaky fixtures not only result in higher water bills but can also cause moisture to accumulate around the fixture or in adjacent areas, potentially weakening structures, causing mold and staining surfaces.
In more severe cases, malfunctioning fixtures can suddenly release a substantial amount of water, leading to immediate flooding and extensive damage to flooring, walls, and ceilings.
Water Heater Leaks
Water heaters that have a leak can escalate into a major source of water damage within a home. These leaks can occur due to factors such as corrosion, faulty valves, or cracks in the tank itself. Initially, they may start as minor drips or puddles around the water heater, but they can quickly worsen.
Over time, the accumulated moisture can weaken the flooring, cause structural damage, and encourage mold growth. In more severe cases, a sudden rupture of the water heater can release a lot of hot water, resulting in immediate flooding and extensive damage to the surrounding area.
Sump Pump Failures
Sump pump failures can lead to significant water damage, particularly in homes with basements or low-lying areas prone to flooding. When sump pumps malfunction or loses power during heavy rains or high water table conditions, it can no longer perform its crucial function.
As a result, water can quickly accumulate in the basement or crawl space, potentially causing damage to flooring, walls, stored belongings, and electrical systems.
Appliance Leaks
Appliance leaks, originating from household devices like dishwashers, washing machines, and refrigerators with water lines, can unexpectedly transform a convenient appliance into a source of water damage. These leaks can stem from damaged hoses, faulty connections, or worn-out seals, and they may start slow or suddenly gush out.
Over time, even minor leaks can soak flooring, walls, and nearby cabinets, leading to structural damage, mold, and the potential for a costly repair.
Roof Leaks
Roof leaks can be a destructive source of water damage in homes, particularly during heavy rainfall or severe weather conditions. These leaks typically occur when there is damage to the roofing materials, such as missing or damaged shingles, deteriorated flashing, or compromised seals around vents and chimneys. When rainwater infiltrates the roof, it can seep into the attic space, damaging insulation, wooden structures, and ceiling materials.
If left unaddressed, roof leaks can lead to rot, and even compromise the structural integrity of the building. Regular roof inspections, timely repairing, and maintenance are essential in preventing and mitigating the water damage that can result.
Sewer Line Backups
Sewer line backups pose a particularly unpleasant and hazardous threat of water damage to homes. When the main sewer line becomes blocked or damaged, it can prevent wastewater from flowing away from the house properly.
This can lead to sewage backing up into sinks, toilets, or floor drains, causing unsanitary and foul-smelling flooding inside the home. Sewage water contains harmful pathogens and toxins, making it a severe health risk.
Also, it can inflict significant structural and material damage to the affected areas, often requiring extensive cleanup and restoration services. Regular maintenance, early detection warning signs, and prompt action to clear or repair sewer lines are crucial for preventing the distressing water damage associated with sewer line backups.
Tree Root Intrusions
Tree root intrusions into underground plumbing pipes can be a hidden and potentially destructive cause of water damage. As trees seek out water sources, their roots can infiltrate and grow inside pipes, causing blockages, cracks, or even complete pipe collapse. When this occurs, water flow is impeded, leading to backups and potential ruptures. The increased pressure from blocked pipes can exacerbate the damage, causing water to seep into the surrounding soil and foundations.
Over time, this can weaken structures and create ideal conditions for mold growth. Detecting and dressing tree root intrusions promptly through plumbing inspections and root removal or pipe repairing are essential steps in preventing the often costly and extensive water damage that can result from this natural intrusion.

How to Stay On Top of Water Damage After a Summer Storm
6/7/2023 (Permalink)
Summer storms can be nice - if they are calm, include maybe a little thunder and lightning, and low winds. However, some summer storms can be dangerous and cause a lot of issues. There are no ways to prevent storms, but there are ways to prevent terrible damage to your home, and SERVPRO is here to give you the low down.
Inspect Your Home
Either hire a professional or take a look around yourself. Your home should be inspected anyway, but especially before a bad storm is about to hit. Make sure that your windows don’t have any cracks or openings, check your foundation for cracks, ensure that there is no space between the bottom of the doors and the ground, and check out the trees.
Broken windows can break even more with high winds and can also flood if water leaks into your home. Cracked foundation and any openings will also invite water into your home - and you’ll not only deal with flooding, but mold growth as well.
When it comes to the trees, be sure that the trees on your property are not dead or check to see if they are sturdy. A bad storm can easily throw branches or even the entire tree right onto your home.
When it comes to your roof, it’s important to get your roof inspected annually - so, if you haven’t done that yet - it’s time. Roof leaks are some of the worst, as it will cause terrible mold growth in your home as well as structural damage.
Grab Sand Bags
If you’re nervous about potential flooding, grabbing sand bags to line the outside of your doors and the structure of your home will help prevent a lot of water from entering. This is, of course, just a short-term prevention. If the water is too deep, chances are it will find a way in - but at least it won’t happen as quickly as if you didn’t have them.
Board Up Windows
If the storm coming reports to be dangerous, including high winds, or a hurricane/tornado warning - boarding up your windows is the smartest thing to do. This will help keep your windows in one shape and prevent cracking, breaking, or further damage.
Take Photos
Prior to a storm, take photos of the inside and outside of your home. This is for insurance purposes. If the storm does hit and creates damage - you’ll have before and after photos to show your insurance company.
It’s important to stay up-to-date on the news when it comes to the weather - especially in the summer, as storms do come and go more often than other seasons. Being fully prepared is better than risking it. However, if you do experience water damage, mold, storm damage, or anything else - SERVPRO can help restore your property back to the way it was - like it never even happened.

Types of Water that can Enter Your Home
3/1/2023 (Permalink)
Water is important. We see it everywhere. Influencers on Instagram are reminding us to hydrate, doctors are telling us we need to consume a specific amount of water per day, etc. As crucial water is for us, there are some destructive elements that come with it. Knowing what types of water has invaded your home or business is essential to know a safe and quick clean-up restoration process.
Three Types of Water
1. Clean Water
Clean water is what we all want and love. Whether it comes out of a filtered pitcher, a water filtration system, or bottles, this type of water is the goal to keep us hydrated and healthy. Clean water comes from a pipe into your home - unless tampered with due to a storm, crushed pipe, or other issues.
2. Gray Water
Gray water is slightly contaminated. The most common sources of gray water damage include toilet bowls containing urine, water from a dishwasher or washing machine, and flood damage caused by sump pump failure. It can cause a lot more damage than clean water and may devolve into black water if not treated quickly.
There are many reasons why you have gray water in your home:
- There may be air in the water supply
- Hard water scale deposits
- Presence of bacteria
- Fungal growth in water
3. Black Water
Black water is highly contaminated and filled with fungi, bacteria, and chemicals and is often sewage water. It poses serious health risks and increases the damage to your water. It’s extremely important to avoid all contact with black water. Do not walk through contaminated areas and don’t turn on HVAC systems or fans when black water is present, to avoid spreading contaminants through the air.
Some reasons why you have black water include:
- Mineral deposits (magnesium, manganese, and iron are common minerals that build up in your water system over time. When these minerals oxidize, they come out of your faucet and can turn black.
- Rusty pipes
- Mildew growth
- Sand or clay particles
- Old filter system

3 Ways to Prevent Water Damage in Your House
4/7/2022 (Permalink)
Your home in the Aberdeen and Holmdel area is likely one of your greatest investments, so guarding it against water damage can be as important as repairing existing issues. Check out these three tips to prevent water from damaging your home and avoid troubling issues like structural problems, mold growth, and more.
- Insulate Your Water Pipes
Wrap your home's water pipes so water won't freeze inside them when the temperature drops below freezing. Frozen water can expand and cause the pipe to burst, resulting in a messy cleanup project. Insulating your pipes can also keep the water supply flowing normally, even during a cold front when the risk of a broken pipe is higher than usual.
- Upgrade Your Drainage System
When it comes to finding unexpected water in the home, the basement can be a trouble spot. Basement floods are common throughout Central NJ in early spring when runoff and heavy rains cause your yard to overflow. You can prevent this by upgrading your drainage system, replacing old gutters and downspouts, and having your roof checked for proper drainage.
- Have a Water Remediation Company Inspect Your Home
Contact SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel to inspect your home for flood risks that can help keep it safe. Our flood cleanup and water remediation company is staffed with knowledgeable technicians who can identify and resolve issues that may increase the risks. Whether you live in an area that floods often or your home’s basement is a problem area, working with SERVPRO can help you defend your home against water damage all year round.

Don't Drink the Water
2/2/2022 (Permalink)
For all of its far-reaching benefits, water can be a very destructive force of nature. If you rank all the potential disasters that could hit your property, water damage will stand a very good chance of taking the top spot. And the health risks of drinking contaminated water after an emergency are just as high.
Knowing what type of water has invaded your home or business is essential to know a safe and quick clean-up and restoration process.
Three Types of Water
- Clean water
The United States Geological Society defines clean water as “water that will not harm you if you come in contact with it.” Clean water comes from a pipe or could be rain water.
- Grey water
Grey water is slightly contaminated. The most common sources of grey water damage include toilet bowls containing urine, water from a dishwasher or washing machine, and flood damage caused by sump pump failure. It can cause a lot more damage than clean water and may devolve into black water if not treated quickly.
- Black water
Black water is highly contaminated and filled with fungi, bacteria and chemicals and is often sewage water. It poses serious health risks and increases the damage to your water. It's extremely important to avoid all contact with black water.
- Do not walk through contaminated areas.
- Do not turn on HVAC systems or fans when black water is present, to avoid spreading contaminants through the air.

The Importance of Water Categories in Restoration
11/12/2021 (Permalink)
Not all water damage is created the same. An overflowing sink is not the same as having a sewage leak! The cost can significantly vary depending on the category of water damage your home or commercial property has sustained.
If your home or business has recently suffered water damage or a water-related disaster, identifying the categories of water loss enables SERVPRO's restoration professionals to formulate a plan of action based on your home's specific needs.
Three Water Categories
Category 1 Water
Category 1 is from a source of water that does not pose a substantial threat to humans and classified as "clean water." This includes broken water-supply lines, tub or sink overflows, or appliance malfunctions that involve water supply lines.
Category 2 Water
Known as "grey water," the water classified as category 2 contains a significant degree of chemical, biological, or physical contaminants and causes discomfort or sickness when consumed or exposed to. This type carries microorganisms and nutrients of microorganisms from sources such as toilet bowls with urine (no feces), sump pump failures, seepage due to hydrostatic failure, and water discharge from dishwashers or washing machines.
Category 3 Water
Category 3 is known as "black water" and is grossly unsanitary from sewage, seawater, rising water from rivers or streams, ground surface water, or standing water. Any "grey water" that's not promptly removed from the structure and or remained stagnant may be re-classified as Category 3 Water. This black water contains unsanitary agents, harmful bacteria, and fungi, causing severe discomfort or sickness, and can t affect the indoor environment.

Sprinkler Malfunction? Call SERVPRO
6/15/2021 (Permalink)
Automatic fire sprinkler systems are effective ways to extinguish a fire, but they can also pose a risk of water damage.
When activated, quick-response sprinklers will release 8-24 gallons of water per minute. In 20 minutes, they can dump hundreds of gallons if the water isn’t shut off. It’s no wonder the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) respond to over thousands of unintentional sprinkler activations each year.
SERVPRO responds to many water damage emergencies throughout the year in the Aberdeen and Holmdel areas. Our water restoration technicians have the specialized equipment and advanced training necessary to mitigate water damage quickly, no matter how big the job is.
We follow the one-four-eight rule:

Avoid the High Cost of Water Damage
6/15/2021 (Permalink)
The Insurance Journal recently reported that aside from weather events, burst and leaking pipes are the most common causes of water damage. And unfortunately, water damage is also the second-most expensive type of repair, right behind fire damage.
When you’re dealing with the aftermath of a water emergency, SERVPRO can help prevent further damage that can lead to costly repairs and health threats.
SERVPRO Can Mitigate the Damage
A leak, overflowing bathtub, sink, or clogged toilet might seem more like an inconvenience rather than a dangerous threat. But water can do a lot of damage, especially when it’s the result of a long-time plumbing problem. Prolonged contact with water, even small amounts at a time, has a serious impact on floors, carpets, walls, and furniture.
Water damage can lead to:
- Fire and electrocution, when water comes in contact with electrical sources
- Mold and mildew, even on hard surfaces like masonry
- Rotted wood that may compromise a building's structural integrity
- Stains
- Spread of bacteria and pathogens from contaminated sources such as sewers
- Odors from mold, mildew, and bacteria
All of these issues are more costly to repair or remove than simply fixing leaks and persistent overflowing. To prevent mold, rot, and other problems from developing, water damage, of any degree, should be addressed within the first 24 to 48 hours.
The team at SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel is always ready to assist, regardless of the size of the water spill. Whether you need a simple inspection or complete demolition service, we have the expertise and knowledge to prevent further damage.

What are the Key Factors for Drying a Home?
3/18/2021 (Permalink)
When water collects in your home from a burst pipe, poor drainage, or weather-related incidents, immediate water mitigation is essential. A team of water removal specialists must arrive as quickly as possible to prevent the water from affecting other areas and causing more damage
The experts at SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel know that when it comes to water extraction, the drying time is key. Here are four factors that impact how long it takes to dry the building and contents inside.
4 Factors that Impact Drying Time in a Water Emergency
- Temperature
Hot air contains more moisture than cold, so 70°- 90° is the ideal range for drying. If heat isn't available, SERVPRO technicians can use portable heaters. They'll also ensure the drying process doesn't release too much moisture in the air by using dehumidifiers. - Air Movement
Rooms with water damage are often damp and humid. Experts will use industrial-strength air mover to blow warm, dry air in and to blast the moist air out. - - Humidity
The measure of air moisture at a given temperature is known as relative humidity (RH). If the RH is over 60%, drying time will be slower because of the air's saturation. SERVPRO techs use dehumidifiers with air movers to lower the RH to for optimum drying power. - Water Requiring Evaporation
Physically extracting as much water as possible at the scene is much more effective than using dehumidifiers. SERVPRO extracts water with submersible pumps, truck-mounted pumps that can extract 36,000 gallons per day, portable pumps, rovers for carpets, and squeegees for hard surfaces.
Call SERVPRO to Dry Your Home in the Right Amount of Time
Successful drying involves the right humidity levels, temperature, water extraction, and air movement. All of these things differ, depending on the circumstances of the water damage. You can count on SERVPRO for the fastest extraction and drying solutions for your Aberdeen or Holmdel property.

How Quickly Should Homeowners Begin Water Mitigation?
2/3/2021 (Permalink)
If you're dealing with flooding, spills or leaks in your Aberdeen or Holmdel home, you should not delay restoration. The longer you wait, the worse the situation can get, leading to expensive repair bills and potential health dangers.
With SERVPRO's water mitigation tactics, you have peace of mind knowing your home is in expert hands — no matter how serious the water incident is.
What Happens if You Delay Water Damage Restoration?
Deterioration starts within minutes of a water incident, and continues over the hours, days and weeks that follow. Problems that can occur within hours include:
- Carpet or floor stains caused by leaching of furniture in saturated areas
- Discoloration of furniture finishes
- Running of dyes in fabrics or upholstery
- Swelling of wood furniture and installations
- Delamination of carpets
- Household odors amplified by humidity
Most of these issues wind up becoming permanent property losses that often could've been prevented with professional assistance.
SERVPRO Technicians Find Ways to Prevent a Water-Loss Incident
It's difficult to instantly respond to a water-loss incident, but the sooner you reach out, the less damage your property will incur. Once we arrive, our team can eliminate odors immediately with water-based deodorizers and cleaning solutions. Our advanced moisture-control tactics can also reverse swelling in wood and prevent cracking.
Seeking assistance with water incidents can prevent more severe outcomes. No matter how severe your water losses are, the professionals at SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel are trained and ready to make it, "Like it never even happened."

How Professionals Clean After a Water Heater Leak
11/23/2020 (Permalink)
One of the most problematic sources of water damage in New Jersey is a leaking water heater. Whether it’s caused by age or environmental factors, the leak can risk damage to your home and valuables. Once you've stopped the flow of water, the cleanup begins.
Cleaning Tips for a Water Leak
Be sure to take safety precautions when beginning any cleanup procedure involving a broken water heater.
- Wear proper safety gear, like gloves and masks, when dealing with water in the home
- Make sure electronics and appliances in the wet area are unplugged
- Transfer rugs and movable items to a dry area
- Dry the floor a mop, towels, or a shop-vac
- Reduce moisture in the air with a dehumidifier, or open windows and run fans
- Rinse wet items with clean water
- Dry items indoors as the sun and outdoor heat may be too intense
Investigating, repairing, and mitigating the damage caused by a leaking water heater should include thorough cleaning and drying, which a qualified professional service would be well-equipped to manage.

Top 5 Causes of Emergency Water Cleanup
6/17/2020 (Permalink)
With years of being one of the best water damage cleanup companies, SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel has seen our share of water issues. No two restoration projects are exactly the same, but some are more common than others.
Take a look at the top five causes of water issues in the central Jersey area. By knowing the most common triggers, you will know where your home’s weaknesses might be and possibly prevent a costly emergency water cleanup.
- Dishwasher
Your dishwasher can cause water damage if not properly sealed, the latch is broken, or it was loaded with the wrong soap. Make sure any leaks are immediately addressed and your dishwasher is repaired or replaced ASAP.
- Washing Machine
The same goes for your washing machine. Perform regular checks, inspecting beneath the unit as well as behind it. Make sure all fittings are securely connected, and there are no leaks underneath. If you have an older washing machine that gives you frequent issues, consider replacing it with a more efficient model.
- Air Conditioner
Your A/C removes moisture from the air and that moisture can build up within the unit itself. If not properly drained, that water could be slowly leaking into your home potentially ruining the flooring and drywall and, in many cases, introducing mold, which is always an emergency water cleanup situation.
- Leaking Pipes
If you notice water pooling in the kitchen or bathroom, you may be dealing with a loose-fitting pipe under sink. Don’t wait to call a plumber. One leak can be a sign of other leaks in the home, too.
- Clogged Drains
Clogged drains aren’t just annoying—they also cause water damage (and mold growth) if left unchecked. A clogged toilet can cause water to back up into the shower, sinks, or bathroom floor. Sewer water is extremely dangerous because it contains raw sewage and bacteria, requiring help from water damage cleanup companies.
If you are experiencing water issues in your home or business, call SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel today at (732) 290-3170.
What to Do if Your Toilet Overflows
6/17/2020 (Permalink)
When your toilet overflows, it’s not only frustrating, it can be dangerous. When the overflow involves a sewage backup, viruses, bacteria, and other contaminants can threaten your health.
Here’s what to do the next time you’re in this inconvenient situation.
Clogged Toilet Solution
Step 1: Stop Flushing
When the first flush doesn’t work, many people rush to flush again. Unfortunately, this will only make a flooded toilet situation worse. Each flush contains more than a gallon of water that you'll have to clean up off the floor.
Step 2: Turn Off the Water
There should be a water shut-off valve located near the floor behind the toilet. Once the water has been shut off, you won't have to worry about more water making the situation worse.
Step 3: Clean Up Spilled Water
If the toilet was only flushed once or twice, you can probably mop it up pretty quickly. If there were more flushes and the resulting four to five gallons of water are flooding the bathroom, you may want to contact a professional to prevent water damage.
Step 4: Address the Clog
Hopefully, you'll be able to dislodge whatever was stuck in the pipes and return to normal function. If not, it’s best to contact a professional.
Remember to protect your home and family from sewer damage. If you’re having trouble finding a clogged toilet solution, contact SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel. We’ll get things running smoothly in no time.

Did your home experience water damage? SERVPRO has the equipment to restore your home.
Holmdel Residents Should Call SERVPRO for Thorough Water Removal Services
Most of us are staying home more than ever before. Enjoying the comforts of the house we live in is a real treat, but it can also strain our utilities. Our power bill may be higher because we are cooking more, and our water bill may increase. Appliances and plumbing could also suffer, and spring a leak when we least expect it.
Removing water damage from a broken pipe or appliance in Holmdel should not be overwhelming. Our SERVPRO team knows how to handle situations like yours, regardless of the size of the damage. When you call our office for help, we dispatch a knowledgeable team that is ready to tackle your problem before it worsens.
Is a dehumidifier enough to dry my home?
Dehumidifiers certainly have a place in extracting water from your home. Our SERVPRO team often turns to industrial-grade dehumidifiers to assist in evaporating water from your home. However, we know that removing water is not enough to protect you from the threat of bacteria. Microorganisms thrive in moist places, which is why restoring normal humidity levels in your home is essential to the restoration process. Our comprehensive approach counts on some of the following technology to guide results and optimize outcomes:
- Infrared moisture meters- these provide accurate readings and help us identify areas of concern such as water remaining in wall cavities and behind cabinets.
- Handheld wand extractors- these allow us to access remote corners and hard to reach places within your home and remove excess humidity in those places.
- Pumps- depending on the volume of water in your home, we may use a submersible or truck-mounted pumps, which allow us to extract water quickly and in large amounts.
Our business experience prepares us to clean up your home in the best possible way. At SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel, we strive to mitigate your loss when disaster strikes. Contact us at (732) 290-3170 and let us leave your home, "Like it never even happened."

Water Removal In Your Aberdeen Property
3/21/2020 (Permalink)
Correct water restoration requires attention to detail in both primary and secondary phases.
The Two Phases of Water Removal that Aberdeen Residents should know
Large bodies of water can affect a home in several negative ways. The first may be primary damages that can affect structure, stain, or shrink fabrics as well as migrating from the source of moisture outward across the home. Secondary damages may be a concern when water problems persist for longer than seventy hours. These may manifest as microbial growth issues, discoloration, or degradation in water quality. As a homeowner, overcoming water-related damages is challenging without access to the appropriate and expertise.
Many homeowners resort to professional water removal services here in Aberdeen. Professional services can take the stress out of water removal while also providing you with peace of mind regarding secondary damages. Our team here at SERVPRO is adept at dealing with water-related issues in residential properties. Using the correct equipment, as well as applying it in the right manner, is essential to ensure your losses are kept to a minimum. We can also frequently restore possessions to a preloss condition following water loss.
Water mitigation can be split into two distinct categories. The first may be emergency water loss situations. These could include flooding, multi-story damages, or appliance malfunction. Our team at SERVPRO is local, which can reduce callout times and help us to prevent water migration as well as degradation. Emergency services may include shutting off the supply of water at the source, as well as removing larger bodies of water using specialist pumping equipment.
A secondary category may be preventative measures that SERVPRO employ to ensure your property does not suffer unnecessary harm. Preventative measures work with the building materials in your home as well as its psychrometrics to ensure that no secondary damages occur. Thorough dehumidification or air-scrubbing of the affected area may be necessary to avoid high humidity levels causing mold growth or odor. We can also treat the affected area using anti-microbial chemicals and biocides to prevent microbes like fungi, bacteria, or viruses from developing.
Correct water restoration requires attention to detail in both primary and secondary phases. Contact SERVPRO of Aberdeen / Holmdel at (732) 290-3170.

Deciding on Pumping or Extraction for Water Removal in your Aberdeen Home
2/5/2020 (Permalink)
Don't let standing water wreak havoc in your home. Call the experts at SERVPRO. We are always available to help.
SERVPRO Chooses The Appropriate Water Removal Method Your Aberdeen Home Needs
During the length of homeownership, you may face challenges that affect your possessions as well as the infrastructure of the home itself. Wetrooms such as bathrooms or kitchens tend to be vulnerable to water incidents since they have a regular flow of moisture. A weak pipe, joint or fitting can quickly result in large quantities of water entering your property. Homeowners tend to use professional companies to remove these bodies of water because they lack the necessary equipment to perform the job themselves.
You can contact our Water Removal Specialists here in Aberdeen by contacting us on the phone. Our operators work round-the-clock to ensure that residents of the community can always get the help they need. Generally, high volumes of water in the home need extraction equipment or pumping equipment to transport it from home into a nearby sewer point or storage tank. The factors that SERVPRO consider when deciding on extractors or pumps include how much standing water there is, measuring in inches, as well as the size and distance of the structure itself- a hallway, for example, may benefit from a different method to a living room.
Extraction is essential to fast-acting restoration. Evaporation is a typically slow process that can be ineffective with large bodies of water. Opening windows immediately when faced with a large body of standing water is a practical step for homeowners to take. Still, it is rarely a decisive action in the overall restoration. Extraction units vary from light wands that can vacuum in water to weighted extraction tools, which can be useful on thicker rugs. In situations where there is an ample space requiring restoration, SERVPRO may use truck-mounts with larger storage tanks of over one hundred gallons.
If a room is tiled like a kitchen or bathroom, and there is a large amount of standing water, SERVPRO technicians may decide that pumping is more effective than extraction. Depending on the location of the room, we may use electric submersible pumps that are capable of pumping 100 to 18,000 gallons of moisture per hour. Subterranean levels may benefit from high-pressure pumping equipment, which has the requisite power to move water upwards and out of a cellar or basement.
Practical restoration is available to the community via our twenty-four-hour emergency line. Contact SERVPRO of Aberdeen / Holmdel at (732) 290-3170 now.

Water Extraction and Drying Are SERVPRO Cornerstones of Mitigation Services for Our Hazlet Neighbors
11/25/2019 (Permalink)
No matter what floor your laundry room is on, SERVPRO technicians have the tools to extract water from your residence.
Fast-Responding Laundry Room Water Removal in Hazlet
A washing machine is an appliance that most homeowners can count on to work as it should most of the time. However, accidents can happen, parts can wear out, and other problems can crop up that can make your home susceptible to water damage. Whether you have a damaged water pump or defective supply valves, it can be challenging to mitigate a sudden influx of water on your own.
If your home requires water removal in Hazlet at any time of the day or night, certified SERVPRO technicians are ready to address the issue. If left unchecked, water damage can create a thriving environment for mold, mildew, and other types of structural problems for your home. SERVPRO uses tried-and-true methods as well as cutting-edge technologies to minimize damage and restore your home.
Common Causes of Washing Machine Leaks
- A faulty tub seal. The water seal between your machine's outer tub and the transmission that turns it can wear down over time, which can cause leaks under the tub.
- A broken water pump. The drain hose connected to your water pump is a vulnerable area for holes. Check hose clamps and hose quality to ensure that there are no leaks.
- Faulty water supply valves.Make sure the valves work before connecting the hot and cold lines.
- Faulty water supply valves.Make sure the valves work before connecting the hot and cold lines backflow. If the laundry room does not have a utility sink, your machine likely drains into the sewer line via a pipe.
SERVPRO is Here to Help
Whether your laundry room is on the first floor of your home or in the basement, SERVPRO technicians have the tools necessary to extract water from your residence. Flooring materials like concrete and tile are very hardy, but over time, exposure to water can compromise their effectiveness. Without thorough drying, concrete can have chalky surface blooms (efflorescence) that come back periodically. In the case of ceramic tiles, too much water in the grout can create warping and expansion that can crack or otherwise compromise the adhesion of tiles to the floor. If the washing machine is on an upper level of a home, as is now the trend, water seepage presents another set of issues that are SERVPRO techs can identify and treat.
Whatever the case may be, SERVPRO professionals monitor moisture throughout the drying process to ensure that moisture content reaches normal levels for those surfaces to prevent further damage. Dormant mold spores exposed to some moisture can develop into troublesome colonies. In cases where moisture may have affected the subflooring, SERVPRO can set up centrifugal air movers and dehumidifiers to dry from underneath and restore your flooring to a preloss condition.
SERVPRO of Aberdeen / Holmdel can generally ensure that your home is, "Like it never even happened." Call (732) 290-3170 today for an emergency response to your home disaster.
