In a Fire, Time is of the Essence

Did you know that you have fewer than two minutes to escape a burning home or office building before it may be too late to get out? It takes virtually no time at all for a small flame to become a major inferno. Time is of the essence in these situations, so you need to be prepared.
Have an Escape Plan
According to the American Red Cross, only 26% of families and businesses have created and practiced a fire escape plan. Paired with working fire detectors, this is your key to survival.
At SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel, we've seen the life-altering effects of fires, and we want you to be prepared in case you're ever faced with one. Here are some suggestions to help you create your emergency escape plan, if you don't already have one:
- Draw a map - Create a map that includes all levels of the building. Label all windows and doors. Plan at least two ways out of each room.
- Consider escape ladders - If you your building doesn't already have escape ladders, consider purchasing collapsible ladders to store by windows in bedrooms on the second and third floors
- Teach your children - Once you have your map, teach your children how to escape on their own.
- Practice, Practice, Practice - Review and practice the plan during different times, day and night.
When every second counts, it's important to plan ahead. If your home or business is in need of fire restoration or cleanup services, contact SERVPRO of Aberdeen/Holmdel today.
